WE CAN’T ACCEPT EVERYTHING FOR THE SAKE OF OUR FAVORITE SPORT
The World Cup in Qatar is the pinnacle of a fraudulent system. Choosing Qatar was not about opening up to the Arab world; it was the result of corruption at every level—buying athletes, federations, ambassadors, and even members of the International Labour Organization.
In this collection, we aim to expose FIFA’s hypocrisy and the exploitation that has taken place, while honoring the memory of over 6,700 migrant workers who have died on these construction sites.
Beyond the looming environmental disaster of building six out of eight stadiums that will sit empty after the World Cup ends, it is critical to remember the harsh conditions faced by workers on these projects:
-
Migrant workers had their passports confiscated to prevent them from returning to their home countries.
-
They were housed in dormitories with 8 to 16 people sharing a single shower and toilet, and made to work over 12 hours a day in 45-degree heat.
-
Monthly salaries were as low as $240, with wages often left unpaid.
Our “Workers Jacket” also highlights FIFA’s hypocrisy, with the Fair Play and Football for Hope badges appearing as mere façades. “Football for Hope uses the power of the game for social development” is a statement taken from FIFA’s official “Football for Hope” document.
Don’t just be spectators of modern football’s failings.
